India lives in villages.

India is a rural country . more than 70% of the population lives in villages. they are called gaon. kasba basti .
the population has its major occupation as agriculture.

most of the population is not economically healthy if we count the averages. and still uses the old ways of farming. although the new technology is strongly and speedily creeping into this.

the rural India is still green and full of life despite disparities and problems.

another look around a village.

the villagers are simple people and largely still live in old fashioned houses.

another look at the houses

a stone roof hut.

water is a problem in many villages , they still depend on the monsoon for the crops and have to fetch drinking water from the village wells or the river around.

the village women fetching water from the hand-pump of the village.

still there are villages where there is no electricity at all .

  1. I was talking recently to someone who spends the winter months in her family village in India. She was telling me how the village was virtually self supporting - organic, locally grown produce, local spring water and so on. Will the new India destroy this lifestyle?

Please note that if I comment again, I will not be serious. I try to avoid being serious, it is part of my religion.

  2. first of all , back to your family village is a visit of memories sweet memories. the vision is always different .
when you are living in villages its different. now the attack of GMO treated seeds , crops , a lot of pesticides , and chemical fertilizers for getting the best, using oxytocins for getting more milks, spring waters away 2-3 kms from your home , when its everyday , its different.
the new India is not one , its many new Indias growing together, the routes are multi-paths at the same time. the paths are so different in nature and objectives. you can not find a simple answer to will it destroy the present lifestyle or not.
i personally think that there are tremendous changes but the routes of cultures and divine are so deep that total destruction is not possible .
